PORED
Vessels – self-manufacture
An exploration into the production flow of small scale manufacturing, highly led by material experimentation. Developing a unique manufacturing process for a viable product, beginning with one material – sponge.
Dimensions: 9" x 3" / 6.75" x 3" / 4.5" x 3"
Materials: Sponge, Porcelain
Processes: Slip Casting
Material Exploration: How To Transform Sponge?
Design development
Expanding on the concept of transforming a porous material such as sponge into a solid through slip casting, further developments were made in the process of soaking in slip and burning out material in the kiln.
Work was made towards a batch-production system by refining material selections and consistently streamlining the manufacturing process.
Further steps were added to ensure consistency and repeatability in the final product as well as market viability.
Manufacturing Process: Porcelain Slip Burnout
Product – Pored
A collection of vessels that celebrate the delicacy of porcelain through the development of a technique that allows intricate open cell sponge to be captured in an intimate object.
Pored is a set of three porcelain vessels of varying heights with an interior glaze. A porous material is transformed into an impermeable watertight vessel.
